Beyond wine in the Willamette Valley are fields of clover, heirloom roses, and the wackiness of the UFO Festival in McMinnville, Oregon. Oh, and so much more.
Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast Innkeeper Kristin drove Red Chair round to some of her favorite spots in the Willamette Valley, starting with Chehalem Flats Farm Market where it met two of it’s cousins, Orange and Yellow, who stand guard over this shop filled with local farm produce, plants, lavender and even cheese and bread for winery picnics.
And then there were the fields of Crimson Clover, which he was told is used for a honey source, but also as a cover crop that feeds the soil. At Heirloom Roses’ seven acres of gardens, he posed for lots of photos, including this one of Snowfall. Red met the art of Marta Farris, whose Sheep Herd share pasture space with the llamas at RainDance Marketplace.
Vista Balloon Adventure flight allowed Red to help inflate the balloons for the morning . In the heat of the afternoon, Red took shelter under the beautiful wisteria at Red Ridge Farms, which is also home to Oregon Olive Oil Mill. The final trek for the day was down the trail at Bald Peak State Park as the sun set beyond the Valley.
His final surprise while staying with Kristin at Chehalem Ridge B&B was to don the appropriate headgear and enjoy the parade at the 16th Annual UFO Festival in McMinnville, which commemorates the 1950 Trent sighting in which two local citizens witnesses and photographed a UFO.
Red Chair Travels moved on to the inns of the Washington Bed and Breakfast Guild a couple of months back.
